Fresh off his successful True Believers tour, Rucker’s live performance will pair him with rising country artists Liz Davis and Russell Dickerson
Ridgeland, Miss. (July 18, 2013) – Darius Rucker, one of the hottest stars in contemporary country music with three consecutive No. 1 albums and six No. 1 hit singles on Billboard’s country charts, will be the featured headliner artist during a special Labor Day weekend concert at the Renaissance in Ridgeland.
Dubbed “Darius Rucker Live,” the Sept. 1 live concert sponsored by C Spire Wireless and presented by Samsung will also feature rising country artists Liz Davis and Russell Dickerson.
Tickets for the 6 p.m. concert, which will be held in the green open space area just off Highland Colony Parkway between the Renaissance shopping center and the C Spire corporate headquarters office building, go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 19 through Ticketmaster. Tickets are $30 each for general admission and $60 each for a limited number of premium VIP passes, which offer special access to the Samsung Experience tent in a fenced area near the stage and complimentary food and beverages. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m.
Rucker, the former front man for Hootie and the Blowfish and the first black artist in 26 years since Charley Pride’s “Night Games” in 1983 to score a No. 1 country single with 2008’s “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” is coming off a 20-city tour to promote his new album, True Believers, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart in May.
One of the album’s tracks, bluegrass-infused “Wagon Wheel,” has landed Rucker, a South Carolina native, his sixth No. 1 country hit and his second platinum single. Rucker’s rich baritone cover of the classic tune co-written by Bob Dylan and the Old Crow Medicine Show Band’s Ketch Secor has won universal praise and taken the country music scene by storm.
Sharing the stage with Rucker will be a two rising country music artists, including Madison, Mississippi native Liz Davis, who made the top 20 in the third season of NBC’s The Voice singing competition. Singer-song writer Russell Dickerson, who recently signed a deal with one of Nashville’s most successful independent music publishers, also will perform during the concert.
Samsung plans to showcase its extensive suite of phones, tablets, laptops, televisions and other electronics and accessories at the tent during the concert – giving consumers the chance to get a hands-on experience with the latest and most popular digital communications, audio and video devices.
